NFL time..

This week has started out great for here in Wroclaw. First we had a good win over Unia Tarnow on Saturday in Orbita. We played well and we needed to respond after a very disappointing loss in Ostrow.

Then we got hit with two surprises that I did not see coming. After the game Coach Urlep told us we had Sunday off!!!!!! Playing for coach we do not have many off days at all and this one kind of came out of the blue, so it was nice. The only problem was I had not had an off day in so long I had no idea what to do with it. My wife has gone back home to work and enjoy the holidays with her family so I decided I was going to relax for most of the day. I am not a big sleeper so sleeping in is kind of hard for me. I did my best though. After I got up I called Dean Oliver and we decided that we would try to make this Sunday like a Sunday in the states. The only difference was I did not go to Church in the morning. So Dean, Glenn Elliot and I got together and watched American Football for about four hours yesterday. We cooked some food and it felt just like home. There is only 3 weeks left in the NFL football season, therefore the games are getting very good and mean a lot. This is the best time to watch these games, the crowds are amazing and anyone can beat anyone in football. It was great to take a day and feel like you were at home. Also, having the day off allowed for us to refresh our bodies and minds which we greatly needed.

The second surprise is one that should not have been a surprise. We found out today that we will be able to go back home to the United States for a few days at Christmas time. We will miss Christmas though, and this I have a big problem with. Christmas is about the celebrating the birth of Jesus and that should be done with your family. Why the polish league schedules two games the week of Christmas is amazingly stupid to me. Remember, we have not played two games a week the whole season and now all of a sudden we are going to play two the week of Christmas????? Also, the team we are playing agreed to change the date and our club booked seven plane tickets for our foreign player to go home, then called back a few days later and backed out. Our club, which has been great to us through this situation, worked non stop on getting this game changed with the league and with the team we are playing. Neither would cooperate, so coach told us today that we could go home for a few days after we play on the 27th. I understand for teams like Prokom and Anwil that are playing in european cups that going home for Christmas might not be possible, but when a league has the chance to get it's foreign players home for a few days they should help them not make it harder for them. I am just thankful I do get to go though.

This week we have a very difficult game with Kotwica. This is what we call a trap game in the states. When there is a game between a big game. Kotwica is a good team (just look how they beat Prokom) with a couple very good players. We need to be super ready and focused or we will go there and get beat. Hope to see some fans make the trip. Everyone have a great week and GO SLASK!!!!
